Want More Childcare Spots? AND Cheap Yoga?

February 13, 2013

You’ve asked for more childcare spots at Blooma, so we’re taking action! To make this happen we need your help.

Blooma’s childcare operates in part because of amazing parent volunteers like you. So, what’s in it for you (other than more childcare spots)? First off, you get to dance with sweet littles, snuggle and read, play to your heart’s content, and cradle new babies. Fun, right?

But even better than that is the nearly-free yoga you’ll get in return. For every three shifts you volunteer, you can purchase a volunteer pass: 5 classes for $15. That’s $3 yoga! (Crazy, right?)

Below are the shifts we need filled. (more…)

For every three shifts you work, you’re eligible to purchase a 5-class Volunteer Pass for $15. That works out to just $3 per yoga class!!!

You’re Talented + You’re Wanted!

February 7, 2012

Jenny’s Light is a national organization (based locally) working to increase awareness surrounding postpartum depression and other perinatal mood disorders. Blooma wholeheartedly adores, loves and supports Jenny’s Light, so we wanted to pass along the following volunteer opportunities that popped into our inboxes this week.

Read on, figure out where you can best share your marvelous talents, and contact Dana Callahan at dana@jennyslight.org to volunteer!

Love,

Alisa, Sarah & the women of Blooma

Jenny’s Light is currently looking to fill the following volunteer positions:

1. Volunteer Coordinator

This person will be the main point of contact for all volunteers.  Duties will include following up with potential volunteers, updating all volunteer information, coordinate volunteers for expos and all fundraising events, sending emails/phone calls and meeting with new volunteers as well as train all volunteers.  Hours will vary depending on events that are taking place.

2. Grant Opportunity Researcher

This person must have familiarity with the internet in order to look for opportunities for Jenny’s Light to apply for grants or enroll in money raising contests.  Hours vary but probably 30 minutes every other day or 7-8 hours per month.

3. Circle of Moms Assistant

This person will assist Elizabeth (COM Founder) with tasks including scheduling, coordinating and interviewing future facilitators, acting as liaison between facilitators and Elizabeth, delivering appropriate training materials (developed by Jenny’s Light) to facilitators and coordinating with those interested in starting their own COM group.  Hours will vary.

4.  Cookbook Outlet Finder

This person will need phone/internet to locate potential retailers for Jenny’s Light Cookbook sales.  We would be asking the retailers for counter space and money collection, not actual inventory/sales.  More hours initially, but less hours after locating some outlets. Usually done during day business hours.

5. Website Coordinator

This person will need to have knowledge of websites to check the Jenny’s Light website bi-weekly that all information is current and that all links are functioning properly.  Approximately 2 hours per week.

6. Information Card Distribution

This person(s) will be responsible for finding clinics, hospitals and other outreach centers that would like PPD information cards to distribute.  This would also include the actual distribution of the cards.  Hours will vary but mostly during business hours.

7. Jenny & Graham’s Angels Coordinator

This person will reach out to potential Angels and pair them with a mom/dad that may be suffering from PMADs.  The program helps new moms learn about PMADs and make a plan if symptoms do arise.  The person running this program is in charge of pairing moms and Angels, recruiting Angels and will run the program.  Hours will be more intensive at the beginning but once the program is up and running the hours will vary.

If you are interested in any of these positions, please contact Dana Callahan at dana@jennyslight.org.

Volunteer at Blooma, get almost-free yoga!

August 24, 2011

How can yoga be almost free, you ask? It’s simple! You volunteer in Blooma’s childcare room (experience preferred) once a week for a minimum of three months. In exchange, you’ll get a yoga class pass at an incredible price — just $3 per class! (See below to apply.)

For every three shifts you volunteer, you may purchase a volunteer pass: 5 classes for $15. Use your pass for any weekly class… prenatal, vinyasa flow,  yoga-pilates fusionBring Your Own Baby yoga — you name it! We need volunteers during the following times:

• Monday, 10:30-11:45 a.m.

• Thursday, 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

• Friday, 10:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Other important info: often people ask if they can bring their children with to volunteer. Generally, we prefer if you do not, as it limits the amount of kids we can care for during yoga classes. However, we do make exceptions. Please consider whether you’d truly be able to attend to the needs of the other kids in childcare — who may be of varying ages, while your own child is there.

If this sounds like a good fit for you, fill out the form below and we’ll send you a volunteer application. (Any trouble with the form, just email us the old-fashioned way: lauren (at) blooma.com with the subject line ATTN: CHILDCARE VOLUNTEER.)

We would LOVE to have you as part of the Blooma team!

Love,

Alisa, Sarah & the women of Blooma

Can you help ICAN?

April 20, 2011

ICAN is an amazing organization, dedicated to helping educate women about Cesarean-section birth, recover from surgical birth, and preparing for vaginal birth after Cesarean (VBAC). The organization relies on volunteers, and ICAN wisely offers opportunities for what they call “mother-sized activism: small tasks for busy moms.” Check it out!

The Twin Cities ICAN blog and facebook pages are easy places to connect.

And here’s an invitation from their recent newsletter, in honor of April as Cesarean awareness month:

Memberships are on sale this month. ICAN International raises most of its money from memberships, and it is only $25 a year if you subscribe this month.  Locally, we really need volunteers!  We have so many projects planned, but just not enough time.  If you have ever wanted to get involved, this a great place to start. Since we are all moms with little children, and most of us work full time too, we don’t ask for too much.  A little goes a long way.  We need ideas, inspiration, excitement, brains, bodies and enthusiasm!  We would really love to have some new people meet up with us and help us do the good work. If you are so inspired, please join by going to our website, or email us and let us know you want to help us with our local work.  We would love to have you!!

Can you help ICAN?
