Blooma Prenatal Yoga DVD: Take Two!

December 16, 2013

You heard it here first, friends.  Sarah Longacre, Founder & Owner of Blooma, will be releasing her second Prenatal Yoga DVD, this time giving you two sequences for the price of one.  Blooma’s first DVD was released four years ago and was a huge hit for prenatal mamas all over the world.  For the newest release, Sarah Longacre brings you both an A.M. and P.M. sequence; energizing you for your day, and bringing you a sense of calm to wind down and rest.  These two 35-min sequences were created to be beautiful and empowering practices for your sacred journey into motherhood.

Making it’s big release on Thursday, December 19th, the hard copy will be available at the studio.

A little bit about the DVD from Sarah Longacre herself:

“As a mother who works full time, has a social life, and does her best to keep her family her #1 priority, I know it can be challenging to dedicate a whole hour every day to yoga practice. But I’ve learned that if I can take any time at all on the mat it makes a huge difference to me and my baby–it’s so worth it. In this spirit I created two very different prenatal sequences that are just 35 minutes each.

The A.M. sequence is fresh with energy, dance and movement to warm you, celebrate your body and prepare you for your day. (Of course this can be done anytime in your day. Just listen to what you need in that moment).
The P.M. sequence is grounding, cozy and 100% about relaxation.  It is the perfect 35 minutes to calm you after a busy day and prepare you for a long night of sleep (with a few bathroom breaks of course). “
If you have the time, you can even do the segments back-to-back. You will love this new offering. Pregnant or not, we invite you to enjoy these new sequences.
(And of course, it’s the perfect gift for you or someone you love!)
Find them at Blooma locations on Thursday the 19th, and online very soon.

That means you can catch an Early Bird Vinyasa Flow class before work, a Prenatal Yoga class with your sweetie, or a Bring Your Own Baby or Tots Yoga class with your littles. (Never tried yoga? No problem!)

A couple of highlights this week:

Join Carrie Voda for Tuesday 6-7 a.m. “Broga!”

Tuesday, June 12: Our Vinyasa Flow (for Everyone) classes are always open to both men and women. But we thought it worth pointing out Carrie Voda’s Tuesday morning Early Bird Vinyasa class (6-7 a.m.), which often has at least a couple of men attending. Whether you’d like to call it Testosterone Tuesday or “Broga” (Brothers in Yoga!), Carrie is putting special emphasis on leading a class for men this week.

Thursday, June 14“Pappy Hour” from 7:30-8:45 p.m is a chance for Dads and Dads-to-be to share stories and advice, as well as benefit from the support network of the Blooma community. Held at Blooma Edina. (And yep, it’s free, too.)

Help for Moms Struggling with Anxiety or Depression

March 21, 2012

Mamas, you don’t have to handle it all by yourselves. If you’re pregnant or postpartum and struggling with anxiety or depression, consider the following new, weekly group.

Denise Trombley of Fairview (Riverside) Counseling Center is starting up the group, which begins April 2 and meets weekly from 10:30-12:00. Wouldn’t it feel good to have some extra support?

If interested, call Denise for details and to set up an individual intake session first (612-418-5812 or 612-672-2165).

Beautiful belly art

August 4, 2011

New mama Vang S.  was the randomly-selected winner of a free Blooma yoga class after entering our belly art contest! See her lovely artwork below. Of her creation, Vang said, “Prenatal yoga helped me find balance and peace within while waiting for baby to arrive.”

Congratulations on your new little one and your free class!

Mamas, did you create art on or with your belly? Send pics to alisa (at) and we’ll post them on our blog.

We also want to give a shout out to Rebecca B.’s belly art, with contributions by her two older children. Adorable!

Couples Birthing Workshop: a Dad-to-Be Gives it Rave Reviews

May 20, 2011

If you missed last night’s Couple’s Birthing Intensive with Sarah Longacre, you’ll want to be sure to sign up for the next one: July 16 (search under workshops for “Couples Yoga for Birthing.”) Here’s a sweet note we received about the workshop earlier this spring:

I wanted to reach out and thank you for the wonderful birthing class experience that Paul and I were able to attend last Saturday. Honestly, Paul has not stopped talking about it and has already jumped into applying much of the support techniques he learned. He has spoken with a number a family and friends who have nothing good to say about their hospital-led birth classes–Paul loves to rave about ours! I am thrilled by the intimacy he and I were able to create for our little family, as well as being able to chat with the other couples going through the same experience. We truly appreciate what you have created at Blooma and I wanted to recognize you for it! –Joy Ritchie Peterson

Sarah loves teaching the Couples Workshop and it shows. My husband and I attended when I was pregnant with each of our girls, and the class was the perfect combo of education and ‘date night’ both times! If your partner isn’t the kind to sign up ‘for a class like this’ … or if your schedule is jam-packed and you don’t have the time to dedicate 4 or 6 weeks to a class … if you’ve already given birth before, or if you’ve already taken a longer childbirth class with someone else … well then, Sarah’s three-and-a-half-hour class is perfect for that!

Happy birthing!

Psoas Know-How: A Workshop

April 12, 2011

Maybe you haven’t given your psoas much more than a passing thought since, oh, perhaps ever. The weekend of May 20 is your chance to load up on psoas TLC, and say, “Hey psoas, thanks!” After all, those muscles help provide skeletal integrity, joint mobility,  organ functioning, and emotional well-being. Especially for instructors and educators who support pregnant women, this is a workshop not to be missed. Here are the workshop details:

  • Friday – Sunday, May 20 – 22, 2001
  • at Blooma – Edina, 3919 44th Street, near France Avenue
  • 3-day, 18-hour workshop led by Liz Koch, author of the Psoas Book
  • everyone is welcome to attend, especially midwives, doulas,
    yoga and pilates instructors, etc.
  • registration is $395 til April 22, $425 after that
  • get all the workshop details and online registration here.

The workshop focuses on building core awareness and psoas strength for increased skeletal integrity, joint mobility, organ functioning, and emotional well-being. Psoas release work enhances every aspect of a woman’s pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience.  Teaching women the importance of their Psoas offers a great self-help tool that can easily be integrated into prenatal exercise, yoga, or relaxation routines.

Dance your baby out! (Learn how tonight…)

November 17, 2010

As a doula, I’m a BIG fan of moving your hips during childbirth. So it’s probably no surprise that I think belly dancing (and all kinds of dancing, really) is fabulous practice for getting in touch with your core. After all, it’s this very type of movement that is so beneficial during labor, too.

That’s why I’m super excited to try Blooma’s new Dancing for Birth class — now on Wed. nights at 7:30 p.m. (That means you can dance to your heart’s content tonight!)

I took belly dancing through my first pregnancy and adored it. I’m no regular belly dancer, but this kind of movement simply feels natural when you have a babe on board. Now that Blooma offers a class rooted not only in belly dance, but also African, Romani (gypsy), and interpretive dance, I can’t imagine a better place to experience the melding of Blooma community and dancing that’s beneficial for pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period, too. (Yes, you can come and dance with baby in a sling, too!) There will also be some yoga/dance fusion warm-ups and a bit of meditation. Yum.

Not much of a dancer? That’s okay! You don’t need to have any experience to come to this class. Deborah Savran guides us beautifully through class, no matter what your skill level. You’re guaranteed to have a good time AND get those hips moving.

We’d love to see you at Blooma (Edina) tonight! Sign up online now.

Why let the kids have all the fun?

October 27, 2010

With Halloween right around the corner, and a few party invites, my mind is on my costume… what, oh what, works for a pregnant belly? Do you plan to dress up? If so, share your costume ideas with us!

A quick online search also turned up lots of fun ideas. Some are especially great for couples. Which of the below are your favorites? And please, if you dress up with a creative costume, send us your photo for the Blooma blog! (

Humpty Dumpty Duo! From

Show off what you're cooking up! This one's for the foodies in the family. And if you're not the type to make your own costume, you can rush-order something similar online.

Who's got the cutest bump in town? You do! This adorable idea, submitted to, goes great as a couple's costume idea, too, if you both don construction hats and tool belts to boot.

Envision world peace! Who doesn't wish for a more peaceful world, for now, and for your little one? Another great one from

Happy Halloween!
