Bellyrama Photos & Video – Gorgeous!

August 28, 2012

Last Saturday, Blooma’s Sarah Longacre led a beautiful yoga practice for mamas in all stages of motherhood, on a lovely late-summer morning.

Were you there? What did you love most about Bellyrama? And how about those strong Jesse Bennet arms or those sexy Anna Melzer belly dancing moves, eh?

Photographer Tanya Villano captured the day in pictures and assembled them into a video, too. Check them out!

August 16, 2012

We thought we’d pass along an opportunity to participate in a fascinating photography project about pregnancy in the workplace. Details are below or you can download a flyer about the project. If interested, contact Prof. Deutsch directly at tldeutsch@stkate.edu. Act soon — the project winds down at the end of this month.

Mamas, what are some of the challenges you’ve discovered about working while pregnant? What kind of support have you received?

Love,

Alisa, Sarah & the women of Blooma

My name is Todd Deutsch.  I am a photographer and Associate Professor of Art at St. Catherine University.  I am working on a national project called “Showing: Pregnancy in the American Workplace.”  As the name suggests, photographers around the country have been invited to photograph pregnancy at work with the goal of encouraging public discussion around work- life balance and women’s health.

More information about the project, which will include an exhibition and a book, can be found at ShowingProject.org.  Examples of my own work can be found on my site, ToddDeutsch.com.

I am very excited by the potential that this carries.  While pregnancy in general is a common subject, pregnancy at work isn’t often shown. It presents something of a hole in the collective photographic record.  “Showing” aims to change that.

Right now I am trying to make connections with people who might be interested in participating. Those who choose to participate will receive prints from me for their family albums, regardless of whether or not any of the photographs were selected for publication.

National Geographic birth photo — gorgeous!

November 22, 2011

Mamas-to-be, YES — this is the moment you’re waiting for. The split second of amazement when you meet your baby for the first time and your hearts bursts open wide.

This gorgeous shot was captured by a former midwife named Jane McCrae. Babble.com reports that the photo has won National Geographic’s 2011 Photo of the Year contest (love it!!), though National Geographic still has voting up on its site. Since it’s unclear which is the most recent and accurate, vote for it if you love it!

We’d love to hear from you, mamas— can you describe what it was like when you met your baby for the first time? Share below by Dec. 1, then we’ll randomly choose one to win a free yoga class at Blooma!

New mama Vang S.  was the randomly-selected winner of a free Blooma yoga class after entering our belly art contest! See her lovely artwork below. Of her creation, Vang said, “Prenatal yoga helped me find balance and peace within while waiting for baby to arrive.”

Congratulations on your new little one and your free class!
